Old Business
1) CD Martin contacted TJLA (Texas Junior Livestock Association) about SHGA hosting a show in the near future (summer/August). He was advised that the coordinator would call him back. CD has yet to hear from them, perhaps due to the current busy show season. CD will stay on top of it to inquire what we need to do in order to host a show. Discussion and decision made to open the show to lambs, also.
2) San Jacinto fair upcoming in Sept. This fair is taking place in the county of member Gary Horne. SHGA will sponsor grand and reserve buckle for the fair show. The San Jacinto committee is currently not ready to receive donations/sponsorships. SHGA will vote on the specifics in the future when the committee is ready.
San Jacinto Fair continued…. SHGA will buy up to 3 goats at the final sale. $750.00 will be split between/among the purchases. SHGA members will solicit additional donations to increase the amount of purchase at least $1500.00. Motion to purchase and solicit additional funds made by Kim Martin, seconded by Gary Horne and unanimously voted in.
3) Goat Mountain at the upcoming Montgomery County Fair was further discussed. Catherine Griffin is providing up to 10 does with babies. Different breeds will be represented; Nubian, Alpine, Oberhasli, and Kiko. Move in date is April 8th. The Fair committee sets up the mountain, fencing and water supply. Catherine provides feed troughs, water troughs, feed and daily care for the goats. For the purpose of education and interest laminated pictures of the goats with their breed information will be hung on the fencing at child height. The county extension office has stated that they would pay for copies. Depending upon circumstances, milking demonstrations may be given. Kellar Martin has volunteered to help at Goat Mountain. Kim Martin will check into obtaining a windmill for additional decoration. The date and time of the building of the mountain has not been announced. CD Martin will advise all the members when this information is available.
4) The Facebook account has been set up but is not active. The account needs to be linked with the SHGA email with hotmail. Catherine Griffin is unable to complete the set up without the password for the hotmail account. CD Martin will check into obtaining the password information and advise in the near future.
5) Meetings will be held every other month on the 4th Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Special meetings or email conferences will be scheduled if necessary between meeting dates. For example, a special meeting about the TJLA show will need to be called.
6) Tim Wojcik put together a draft of a tri-fold brochure to be used for marketing and educational purposes for SHGA. Everyone looked at it and gave input about additional entries to the text. Tim will work on it some more and present the brochure at next meeting. The county extension office will pay for copying. A suggestion was made that the brochures can be distributed to FFA and 4H groups advising them that SHGA has information for purchasing show wethers and contact information for local breeders.
New Business
1) Catherine Griffin made a suggestion of SHGA participating in area parades. This interested some of the members and will be discussed at a future meeting.
Motion to adjourn was made by Tim Wojik
